(first light and at the corner of the college of alameda) go down a few lights and then turn right again on main st. then turn left at the first light on w. midway ave. and right at barber's point road and stay to the right. past the basketball courts there are large piles of woodchips and now a fenced area and demonstration gardens.

Ploughshares Nursery Spring Volunteer Opportunities
Ploughshares Nursery is an ecological and organic
nursery featuring edibles (vegetables, herbs, and
fruit), natives and Mediterranean landscape plants for
low maintenance and wildlife gardens, as well as
bamboo for screening and construction. Ploughshares
Nursery employs formerly homeless youth and adults in
a jobs training program. We are a community based
business and greatly appreciate extra hands. We are
located at 2701 Main Street in Alameda.
Volunteers are needed for the following:
Assist with our plant sales: Answer questions that the
public might have about plants and organic gardening,
and also assist with conducting surveys and research
to determine potential markets. – Every Saturday from
10am to 3pm at the Nursery
Lead a volunteer group: We have large groups of
volunteers coming to help us build and expand the
nursery. We will be creating demonstration gardens,
putting together display racks and benches, making
pathways and more.
Join us for Weekly Community Volunteer Days every

City Slicker Farms is happy to announce that we have a new farming
site--an acre of land on a south-facing slope in Orinda just off the
HWY 24 and Orinda BART station. We will be creating a vegetable
farm and fruit orchard there and plan to market all the produce
through our farm stands in West Oakland.
We will be having monthly volunteer workdays the First Sunday of
each month from 10am-2pm and welcome all volunteers for this
beginning phase of planting cover crops, creating paths, mapping out
beds and irrigation, installing fencing and planting trees (this
phase should take around 6 months).
Robin Galas is coordinating this garden, so if you have any
questions or suggestions or would like to volunteer please contact
her at robingalas@gmail.com.
69 Oak Road in Orinda (take HWY 24 or BART to Orinda exit; South on Moraga; West on Stein;
